Organic Mattress, Inc. (OMI) operates America’s only 100% certified organic mattress factory. Located in Northern California, the OMI plant operates like a “clean room”. OMI considers every detail related to purity throughout the manufacturing process.
Mattress makers at OMI cannot wear clothing with fabric softeners, they cannot wear perfumes and they cannot smoke. This strict adherence to cleanliness and purity allows OMI to produce pure organic mattresses. OMI was founded by Walt Bader in 2002. Walt spent many years manufacturing and selling organic linens and other sleep products. Walt built the first ever organic mattress factory as part of his commitment to offering mattresses with virtually zero chemical additives.
Mattress Lot now offers a variety of OMI natural/organic mattresses in their showroom at 2406 NE Sandy Blvd, in Portland’s Kerns Neighborhood. OMI is part of Portland’s largest selection of latex foam mattresses. Mattress Lot is Portland’s only Gold-Certified Sustainable mattress store due in large part to its commitment to carry enviro-friendly mattresses and its mattress recycling program.
OMI’s primary comfort material in their mattresses is all natural latex. In its purest form, latex is tapped from rubber trees grown in SE Asia. The sap is poured into molds forming mattress cores of various sizes and densities. OMI latex is poured into molds on-site near to assure the highest level of purity, consistency and luxurious comfort.
Additional materials in OMI mattresses include certified organic cotton and organic wool. For customers who prefer not to sleep on wool, OMI can substitute cotton to create a similar feel. Wherever possible, OMI uses materials grown in and processed in America. OMI is committed to supporting American farmers and manufacturers. OMI does not use chemical flame retardants. OMI’s organic wool satisfies all federal flame barrier requirements.
Every OMI mattress is made by hand using the purest materials available. OMI carries numerous internationally recognized organic certifications including: Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
