Dream on! Class of 2018 Scholarships

Mattress Lot awarded $4000 in college scholarships to Class of 2018 graduating seniors from four Portland Public high schools. Students from Madison, Grant, Franklin and Cleveland High Schools each earned $1000 toward their college tuition. These East-Side schools are in the heart of Mattress Lot’s service area.

Students from these schools compete every year for a $1000 “Dream Big” Scholarship. Awards are based on academic performance, community and school leadership experience and financial need. A committee of business/community leaders and teachers decide which students earn the scholarships.

Mattress Lot founders/owners Michael & Mary Ruth Hanna started the scholarships in 2014. Since then Mattress Lot has awarded more than $22,000 to college bound East-Side graduating seniors. The Hanna’s’ have two adult children who graduated from Grant High School. Mary Ruth Hanna says “We understand how difficult it is for families to send their kids to college. Our goal is to help East-Side families make college a reality for their kids”.

Mattress Lot is a neighborhood-owned retailer. We donate to a variety of groups and causes in the Portland area with special focus on education and housing/homelessness issues.
